Three Shades and How to Match Them
The usual advice is to pick a brow shade close to your hair colour. In practice, for most people here, going one step lighter than your hair looks more natural than matching it exactly.
Coffee is the lightest of the three and suits lighter or thinner brows. Brown is the middle option and the one most people end up with. Black is for genuinely black brows, and it is easy to overdo, so use a light hand with it.
If you are stuck between brown and coffee, take brown. A slightly darker pencil applied lightly looks better than a lighter one pressed hard.
Filling Brows so They Look Real
Draw short strokes in the direction the hair grows, not one continuous line along the top. A solid outline is what makes a filled brow look drawn on.
Start from the middle of the brow and work outward, then come back and fill the front. The front of the brow should be the lightest part. Most people do the opposite and end up with a heavy block at the inner edge.
Brush through with a spoolie or a clean toothbrush afterward. It softens the strokes and blends the colour into the hair.
